Poople rules: one letter per move
Poople is a word-ladder game: start with a four-letter word and turn it into POOP, one letter at a time. Every intermediate step must be an accepted word.
How to play Poople Practice
Look at your starting word.
The daily practice puzzle uses the same starting word for everyone that UTC day. Unlimited lets you choose another puzzle as soon as you like.
Select a letter and replace it.
The board uses one native text field. Tap a letter to select it, type its replacement, and press Enter or Make a move. You can also select the whole word and paste or type four letters. A valid move changes exactly one position.
Read the feedback.
The game tells you if a word is missing from our list or if too many letters changed. An invalid attempt never adds a move. Your accepted words appear in the trail below the controls.
Reach POOP, your way.
A shorter route is a fun challenge, not a requirement. Undo a move to try another direction, use a hint when you are stuck, and share your result when you finish. Shared results disclose assistance.
Worked example: TAIL to POOP
This four-move word ladder is valid in our dictionary. Read letter positions from left to right, starting at 1.
TAIL → TOIL → TOOL → POOL → POOP
- TAIL → TOILChange letter 2: A → O. Keep the other three letters in place.
- TOIL → TOOLChange letter 3: I → O. Keep the other three letters in place.
- TOOL → POOLChange letter 1: T → P. Keep the other three letters in place.
- POOL → POOPChange letter 4: L → P. Keep the other three letters in place.
Work backward from POOP when you need another approach: POOL, GOOP and PLOP each reach the goal in one move.
You do not need to make every word look more like the destination. A detour can be the way through. If you want to compare approaches, the solver offers an everyday-word route and a shortest route from the same starting word.
Our dictionary and hints
Legal moves use four-letter entries from the open-source word-list dictionary, plus the destination POOP. It includes some inflected, uncommon or mature words. It is not the official Poople dictionary and may accept or reject different words.
Friendly hints use an editorial everyday-word selection. This is a hand-selected vocabulary, not a statistical word-frequency ranking. All daily practice starting words have a route through this selection. For an arbitrary solver word, if a friendly route is unavailable, the tool clearly labels a fallback through the full dictionary.
The fewest-moves result is shortest only within this site's full dictionary. It is not a certified official answer.
Daily and unlimited progress
The daily challenge follows this site's own 46-word schedule and repeats after 46 days. A fresh puzzle becomes available at 00:00 UTC. If the day changes while you are playing, you can finish your current ladder or explicitly open the new puzzle.
Daily and unlimited progress are saved separately in this browser. No account or device sync is provided. Unlimited picks from an editorial practice pool; it can eventually repeat a starting word. The previous starting word is excluded when you choose a new puzzle.
